During my long career as an applied scientist and product development engineer, I never seriously engaged in painting as a creative outlet. Oh, I dabbled in the occasional small painted project but, primarily, I found artistic expression in designing and creating handmade patchwork quilts.
It wasn’t until I made a job-related move to Southern California that I stumbled upon watercolor. Fell in love with the medium, and it quickly became my primary artistic focus. There I studied with several watercolor teachers and began to sell my landscapes.
When I relocated to Arizona, I continued working with watercolor and studied with Ruth Palmisano and Lorraine James. Along the way, I was introduced to oils through a friendship with Frederick Munzing, who had been a student of Emile Gruppe, and also received a lot of encouragement from Iran Berlow. Oils have since become a passion.
I’m pretty much a product of the Sunbelt – was raised in Miami and lived for many years in the Southwest. New England entered my bloodstream during my student days at MIT and later while working in Upstate New York and Connecticut. As a result, my subject matter reflects my love of both New England and the American West and includes landscapes, sea and harbor scapes, ghost towns, pioneer scenes and the occasional cowboy.
I am a member of the Sanford Art Association, Maine Women in the Arts, Saco Bay Artists, Desert Sage Artists, Paradise Valley Artists League and am a juried member of the Arizona Art Alliance. I currently make my home in Kennebunkport.
